Literacy Opens Doors to Opportunity

A student who learns to read by the end of second grade has a far better shot at everything that follows. That’s the finding from a University of Notre Dame study: reading comprehension at this early stage sets the trajectory for a student’s entire education, and researchers estimate that universal literacy could significantly reduce global inequity.

That finding captures what we believe at PVJ Literacy Foundation. Reading is not the finish line. It’s the starting point for everything else: staying in school, building confidence, and eventually building a future. As Notre Dame researchers put it, literacy is part of the “broader, deeper set of outcomes needed to address” educational inequity.

That’s the future we’re building, one reader at a time.
